Submission Guidelines

We accept unsolicited queries in the categories outlined on our home page.

We are no longer accepting queries for novels. As of July 1, 2011, we will focus on nonfiction projects, although we will continue to represent the novelists we are currently working with.

For non-fiction proposals send a query letter first (see Contact Us page).

If it is a project we want to consider, we will ask you to send a formal book proposal in Microsoft Word which includes all of the following:

Hint: When choosing a topic, spend some time doing market research and write a killer proposal. (Several good books explain exactly how to write a nonfiction book proposal. Get one and follow it.) Find a niche that has an audience and tell us why your book is needed in the marketplace. Tell us about your platform (i.e., your ability to command an audience, your current readership, your fan base, etc.) Convince us that your writing is excellent and your book idea has potential.

Think of the submission proposal as your sales brochure. Put extra effort into this piece. It should be between 10-20 pages, plus sample chapters. Keep in mind that although your book is for a wider audience, your book proposal is meant to sell only one person--the acquisitions editor.
